How can a massage help me?
A massage can help you find pain-free movement, improve your well-being, and offers a natural form of relief from aches, pains, and stresses. Like osteopathy, massage is designed to help the body recover, gain strength, flexibility, and release tension from muscles that, left otherwise untreated, could lead to pain and other issues. At Vivian Street Osteopaths, our team combine detailed training with years of experience to provide leading massage services near you.
Massage therapy involves the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues – the muscles, connective tissues, tendons, and ligaments. It can help with:
- Aches and pains, including neck, back, and shoulder pain
- Stress management
- Injury rehabilitation
- The care of the disabled
- Promoting restful sleep
- Improving sporting performance and recovery
What types of massage treatments are there?
We offer a range of massage treatments at our clinic near you, designed to help tend to a wide range of needs and bodily conditions.
Deep tissue massages are good for releasing chronic muscle tension. They help break down scar tissue and muscle adhesions and thus improve your range of motion.
Sports massages are a specialised form of deep tissue therapy designed for athletes. They can be done pre-event, post-event, and during training. They can help both in improving performance and as a part of preventative care. A sports massage can help an athlete increase muscle tone, reduce the likelihood of injury, and improve posture, muscle balance, and the efficiency of movements. In addition to these performance benefits, they can also treat sprains, strains, and discomfort.
Myofascial release massages are great for releasing muscular shortness and tightness. This technique uses gentle pressure and stretching to release the fascia, the thin connective tissue that covers the muscles and holds them in place. Myofascial release massages are ideal for helping with recovery from an injury, especially for individuals who have lost flexibility and function as a result. They are also effective at treating ongoing pain in any area with soft tissue.
Trigger point massages focus on specific areas of the body. During a trigger point massage, a therapist pinpoints a problem muscle and uses deep pressure to coax it to relax.
Relaxation massages, unlike the other forms listed on this page, are not designed to treat injuries or discomfort. Instead, they focus on helping you de-stress or loosen the body. They incorporate gentle strokes and manipulations of the muscles to help you relax. They are great for enhancing health and well-being, giving you a quick energy boost, and make an ideal gift for the hard worker in your life. As a bonus, they also help improve circulation, reduce feelings of stress, and can even reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and anger.
Prenatal massages are safe throughout the entire course of pregnancy. They can help reduce back and joint pain, oedema, and can help improve circulation. If you’re pregnant and interested in the benefits of a massage at a clinic near you can offer, please speak with one of our osteopaths to see what type of massage would be appropriate for you.
With years of experience treating patients from all different backgrounds and walks of life, the team at Vivian Street Osteopaths knows that no two bodies are the same. That’s why we treat every patient as an individual. We’ll work with you, to understand your medical background and your history of injury in order to build a targeted treatment that is the right fit for your condition. That way, you’ll benefit from a faster, smoother recovery, with better prospects for long-term well-being.

If you would like massage treatment to treat pain or injury resulting from an accident, we’re able to help. Unfortunately massage is not covered by ACC. However, if you have sustained an injury from an accident you consider may be covered by ACC, please book in with one of our osteopaths.
If you’re eligible, ACC will pay part of the cost of each massage treatment. This means that instead of the full price of $75, you’ll only have to pay $45 for your subsidised treatment.
Please discuss with your osteopath whether you might be eligible for an ACC subsidy for your care.
We require adequate notice if you wish to change or cancel your appointment.
If less than 24 hours notice is given and we are unable to fill your original appointment, you will be charged a $30 cancellation fee.
No shows will be charged at full price.
